SOUTH AFRICAN TOURISM
MEDIA RELEASE Tuesday, April 1, 2008 SA Tourism Japan launches a ‘Picture Perfect’ Photo Contest Campaign in April to attract more Japanese visitors to SA South African Tourism Japan in collaboration with the JATA (Japanese Association of Travel Agents) Working Group partnered to unveil its “Picture Perfect” Photo Contest campaign on 1 April 2008. ‘Picture Perfect” Photo Contest campaign is an open invitation to encourage the general public to discover the wealth of tourism offerings through the photos of South Africa. It is the biggest and most visible online campaign ever launched by South African Tourism in the Japanese market aimed at improving the image of South Africa as friendly, easy and affordable destination by using the “Word-of-mouth” effect; travellers’ own stories will become a living testimony of the unspoiled beauty, wildlife and welcoming South Africans they have come into contact with. In so doing, South African Tourism Japan has launched a campaign website located at www.pictureperfect.jp. It is open for entry by anyone who has visited or going to South Africa and has photos taken in the country. Those who want to apply can submit their photo by uploading it to the website or by sending them physically to the office in digital format. Submitted photos will be posted along with episodes and will be stocked as a photo gallery, which can be searched and viewed by different categories or by all nine provinces. Moreover, the website allows the website visitors to choose photos they like, vote and comment like a blog site. The winning photos will be selected by judges and winners will be awarded with various prizes including a free trip to South Africa. The application period will be 1 April to 31 October 2008. The winners will be announced online in November. In order to raise campaign awareness, and attract consumer interest to drive traffic to the campaign site, South African Tourism is planning to place POP (Point-of-Presence) at travel agents’ counters, and distribute “take-one-leaflet” flyers, and post advertisements in several media across Japan. Bradley Brouwer the Country Manager of South African Tourism Japan says, I know that this will be hugely successful and has asked the South African Tourism Partners to please make sure that the Japanese have a Great experience in South Africa.
